This recipe is probably the recipe that I have been making the longest. It was one of the first recipes I learned to make as a teen, and has since been my go-to when I need to bring a quick, crowd-pleasing dessert anywhere.
The entire recipe can be made using a microwave and a single bowl (other than for the melted chocolate topping). It could not be any easier to make, and I guarantee that anyone who tastes these bites of decadence will absolutely love them.
You can choose to cut them into bite-size pieces or keep them larger – there are no rules for these! Make sure you use an aluminium tin, as suggested, otherwise, you will break the whole thing when trying to remove it before cutting, from any other pan. The aluminium allows you to fold it back, removing the dessert in one whole piece, so that you can cut it into proper squares (see photos for reference on removing it from the aluminium container).
Feel free to add some crushed nuts or other toppings onto the melted chocolate top layer before popping it into the fridge… for extra decadence! Oh, and if you ever meet someone who dislikes these, please let me know – I have yet to find a person in existence who does not gawk over these.
Enjoy! XX
No-Bake Mars Bar Squares
Equipment
- shallow, disposable, aluminium tin
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup salted butter softened
- 6 Mars Bars
- 2 cups mini marshmallows heaping
- 4 cups Rice Krispies
- 2 cups milk chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a medium-sized microwaveable ceramic bowl, melt the Mars Bars and butter (roughly 2 mins microwaved).
- Add in the marshmallows and microwave to melt (another 2 mins).
- Remove from the microwave and stir quickly using a spatula, to combine.
- Add in the Rice Krispies and toss with the spatula until they are entirely coated.
- Spread the mixture evenly into the aluminium tin – flatten the top by pushing down.
- Melt the chocolate chips, either in the microwave or in a double boiler.
- Spread the melted chocolate over the flattened mixture and spread to cover the top evenly.
- Place in the fridge for at least two hours, or overnight, to harden completely.
- Once hardened, remove the whole thing from the aluminium pan, without breaking (tip: fold down the aluminium corners and gently pull it out).
- Cut into 2-inch squares.
- Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
