I wanted to come up with a fun appetizer recipe (or snack) for Valentine’s Day that you could enjoy while sipping on my “La Vie En Rose” gin cocktail. I thought of a way that I could theme it to reflect the colours of love day, while also keeping it gourmet (and fun for the kids!).
I figured everyone will be spending Valentine’s Day at home, and many families will want to make it festive for their kids too. So I came up with a dip that is both pretty and delicious for the whole family!
Make it as a snack for the kids, or as as compliment to a fancy meal that you’re ordering in (support local restaurants!). It’s perfect for cocktail hour, or as a post-outdoor-fun snack!
You can make this recipe ahead and keep it in the fridge for up to two days. The pink colour makes it fun – creating a different take on the traditional pink and red sweets for Valentine’s Day.
I happen to be a person who favours savoury to sweet, and I know I am not alone in that. But I find that it is hard to find a treat that isn’t sweet, when it comes to themed food for V-Day. This solves that issue! And it will still be a hit for the sweets-lover(s) in your home; the touch of balsamic glaze adds a hint of sweetness, as do the strawberries.
Happy love day!
Enjoy! XX

Strawberry-Feta Dip (Inspired by Valentine’s Day)
Equipment
- Food processor
Ingredients
- 200 g feta cheese crumbled
- 400 g strawberries
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup milk (preferably whole milk)
- Basil for garnishing
- Balsamic glaze for garnishing
- Crackers for serving
Instructions
- Trim the tops from 3/4 of the strawberry, and cut them in half lengthwise. Reserve the rest of the strawberries, setting them aside.
- Add the crumbled feta and sliced strawberries into a food processor, drizzling the olive oil on top.
- Pulse until a mixture starts to form.
- Add in the milk and pulse until completely combined, smooth and creamy.
- Place into a serving bowl and top with some chopped basil and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
- Cut the remaining strawberries into heart shapes, by carving off the stems into a v-shape, slicing the strawberry in half lengthwise, and cutting the tips on either side of the "V" into more rounded pieces, forming a heart.
- Serve as a dip with crackers.
Notes
- You can alternatively use cream instead of milk if you want it to be more creamy and more “whipped”.
- Be generous with the basil – it adds for a very night freshness.
